Woodridge Eagles:
Are you ready to read?

Q: What is the Read-A-Thon?
A: The Read-A-Thon is a pledging fundraiser to support PTSA programs at Woodridge!  It’s also a great way to encourage reading during Spring Break. In the last couple of years, students at Woodridge have read over 132,000 minutes over school breaks for this event.

Q: How is it done?
A: This year we are moving our format online. There will be a bin outside of the school for extra forms to keep track of your reading and pledges, but we encourage everyone to download forms and make payments ONLINE.

  1. Before Spring Break: Students will set a reading goal and gather sponsors (such as parents, grandparents, family and friends) to pledge money. An informational packet will be sent home or you can download all the forms on this page.
  2. Read and collect the money - this year all funds will be collected online on the Woodridge PTSA Website.
  3. Week after Spring Break:
    1. Fill out the Google Submission Form on the Woodridge PTSA Website with your total minutes and total pledges.  Keep your reading logs and pledge sheets for your records
    2. Contact your sponsors to pay ONLINE at the Woodridge PTSA Website. Helpful Hint: if you receive cash, collect it all and have a parent or guardian submit it in one payment.

Q: What is the goal of the Read-A-Thon?
A: The Read-A-Thon focuses on setting goals, making reading a priority, and building community with our classmates. Because of that, participation is highly encouraged.

Q: Where do students find sponsors?
A: Ask family and friends to support your reading efforts. Please do not ask teachers or administrators for sponsorship. Corporate Matching is a great way to support your student and Woodridge.

Q: What kind of reading goals do students make?
A: We recognize that students are on vacation during this time, so we suggest reading for 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the evening as a great reading goal (~280 minutes for a week). During last year’s Read-a-thon, the highest readers read for over 1300 minutes – averaging over 2 hours of reading per day.

Q: What counts as reading for this event?
A: Books, Graphic Novels, Magazines, Newspapers, Audiobooks, books in languages other than English, Online reading (Raz-Kids, Lexia), Parents reading to kids, kids’ reading to parents, siblings or friends reading to each other (counts for both kids), reading to pets.

Think of something that is not listed above? Here is a rule of thumb: If your teacher or Mrs. Peterson would consider it reading, then it is. Another great resource is the King County Library System.

Q: Are there incentives for participation?
A: …seriously awesome prizes for our readers and classes.
  • Participation: Each student gets a small prize and bookmark when they make a reading goal.

  • Student with highest minutes read in each grade: Read-A-Thon Certificate, small prize and Amazon gift card.

  • Student with the highest total pledge in each grade: Read-A-Thon Certificate, small prize and Amazon gift card.

  • Class with highest reading minutes: Fun Reading Party with Mrs. Peterson*.

  • Class with 100% participation: Fun Reading Party with Mrs. Peterson*.
